Establishment and Optimisation of Telehealth consultation services to Residential Care and beyond – Development and organisational aspects

Topic Synopsis

This topic will discuss how to establish and optimise telehealth services to residential aged care facilities (RACFs) from the organisational perspective. Learnings will be shared using a case study and interview with the coordinator for Geri-Connect Telehealth Outreach Service. Using telehealth to connect into RACFs benefits both staff and patients as it increases access to specialist care, including geriatricians, and reduces the need for patients to travel or staff to coordinate resident transfer. There are important steps a telehealth service provider should take right at the start of the process of setting up a service, and many things the provider and RACF staff can both do to optimise the telehealth experience for the resident and for staff. Staff skills required and tips to establish good relationships will also be covered.
